About Brave Hearts

Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love of humanity.”
-Hippocrates

While we complain about being stuck at home,
While we get tense and get into pointless arguments,
While we still get to text our friends and even call some,
They are out there, on the battlefield.

While we disobey the confinement measures,
While we make pointless jokes on social media,
While we think that we are invulnerable and belittle this virus,
They are out there, on the battlefield.

While each one of us suddenly turns into a medicine expert,
While we get into fights and brawls over groceries,
While each one’s true face is slowly revealing,
They are out there, on the battlefield

While we freak out about the economy,
While we are afraid of losing our jobs,
While we contribute to the spreading of fake news,
They are out there, on the battlefield

Risking their lives to save others
Getting exposed to the disease so that others can no longer have it
Struggling to attend an never ending increase in demand
They are out there, on the battlefield

Encountering death wherever they go
Unable to go home in order to rest mentally and physically
Facing equipment and material shortages
They are out there, on the battlefield

Keeping a smile on their faces in order to cheer the others up,
Doing the best they can with they have,
Succumbing to the pressure around them,
They are out there, on the battlefield

They are forced to choose which ones to save
Because we refuse to stay at home
They are constant exposure of something they are trying to rid others of
They are out there, in the battlefield

They are not gods, they might not make it out alive
They are flawed, they make mistakes
They break down in tears because they are tired and cannot take it anymore
Just like you and me

They are not perfect, but they are selfless
They are not gods, but they are saving lives
They are flawed, but they are trying their best for us
They are not heroes,

They are Nurses and Doctors
And I salute them
