About Mirrors

The worst guilt is to accept an unearned guilt.”
-Ayn Rand

How does it feel to wake up in the morning and not wanting to get out of bed?
How does it feel when every eye, laugh and mockery seems to be targeting you?
What is it like to feel worthless, like you were born just to be scared?
What is it like when that light is not there, and the darkness you cannot see through?

Lust, Greed, Pride, Envy, Wrath, Gluttony and Sloth may be called deadly
But truth has it that they become deadly because of something else they create in you
A deadly sin is one committed when one is aware fully
However, the true deadly one is not of those 7, at least based on what I wish I knew

Take a pencil and a piece of paper. Take a moment to think of your answer
Draw me a monster, and then tell me why is it scary in your eyes?
When you look in a mirror, do you see hope? Or just a sinner?
When was the last time you smiled back at your reflection, without holding back the cries?

Several things hold us from being the ones we should truly be
Gravity, the weight on our shoulders, fear, mockery, our past and more
Standing on the edge and looking down, having given up already
Because that one deadly sin you cling on to, keeps raising the score

Guilt is the only deadly sin, for once we give in to it, we already start to die inside
Guilt results in people always taking the blame, even for things they did not do
The Catholics’ ‘7 deadly sins’ are called such because to Guilt they are the bride
Guilt generates self-hate, depression, self-harm, anxiety, making one feel like a taboo

Whatever happened in your life, whatever you are going through now
It is important for you to know that it is not your fault
You get your hands dirty, you make mistakes, your heart is not as white as snow
But you are still human, just like me. I am no better when it comes to self-assault

No human is supposed to carry the weight of the world alone
Most of which is generated from our own guilt and the blame we just take
We are beautiful creatures, full of light we once shone
The greatest insult we can do to the Universe is to give in and break

You have no right to die. Not now. Not like this.
Let go of all the lies you once believed in, for they do not define one’s soul
Find shelter, reconstruct yourself, and rise from this abyss
Fight back for who you really are, not what is demons say when of them your head is full

You have forgiven everyone who has ever done you wrong
Everyone you did wrong has forgiven you a long time ago
But let me ask you a simple question: “Have you forgiven yourself?
Despite the intensity of the pain and shame, were you able to let go?”

Forgive yourself; you are not perfect
Show yourself grace; you are still learning
Show yourself patience; you are on a journey
And over it is far from being

“We all make mistakes, don’t we? But if you cannot forgive yourself, you will forever be an exile of your own life.”
Curtis Sittenfeld
